Like for example, when you try to hit a stuck letter “S” you will get a line or two of Ss. Another thing that is frustrating about this is that when you try to replace a stuck key with a new one, it is quite expensive. For MacBooks for example, you can get individual stuck keys for $15 to $20 per key. So, most people with this kind of problem just buys a new keyboard because it costs a little more than buying pieces of keys plus it decreases the chance of having more stuck keys than they already have.

Our last blog post we talked about “Computer Anti-virus: Protect Your Laptop Against Intruders“, today we will share with you on “Dealing with Stuck Keys in Your Laptop Keyboard”.

Isn’t it frustrating to have a stuck key or broken key on your laptop? Like for example, when you try to hit a stuck letter “S” you will get a line or two of Ss. Another thing that is frustrating about this is that when you try to replace a stuck key with a new one, it is quite expensive. For MacBooks for example, you can get individual stuck keys for $15 to $20 per key. So, most people with this kind of problem just buys a new keyboard because it costs a little more than buying pieces of keys plus it decreases the chance of having more stuck keys than they already have.

Instead of replacing individual stuck keys just replace your keyboard entirely.  You can find many types of keyboards on the net. Just type in the laptop model followed by the word “keyboard” on your favorite browser. You will find several online stores that offer brand new keyboards for the price of $ 15 to $100 and $5 to $20 for second hand keyboards.

If you have an old system, let’s say a 4 year laptop, you can get a used keyboard because getting a new one would just probably outlive the laptop you have. But be careful in buying used keyboards because they might also have bad keys. So, if you want to buy it second hand, it must have at least a 30 day warranty.

Before trying to open up your laptop to replace its keyboard, you might want to check if it is still covered by the manufacturer’s warranty because if it still is and you opened the case you will lose its warranty. Another thing is try to refer to the system’s manual to guide you on this task. Remember, we don’t want to add anymore damage to the system.

Some laptops have a bar that locks the keyboard in place while others must be unscrewed from the bottom of the case before the keyboard can be removed. There are also those types that require you to open the case before you can get at the keyboard.

I have here the instructions on how to replace a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 keyboard. If your device is a Satellite Pro 6100, you might want to follow these steps.

  1. Turn off your laptop and close the display monitor.
  2. Remove the power cable from the computer and turn it upside-down.
  3. Take off the battery of your laptop.
  4. Turn the laptop right side-up; open the display and find the thin rectangular strip or lock bar above the keyboard.
  5. Once you have located the strip, gently lift it off.
  6. Unscrew the keyboard from its place.
  7. Gently lift the keyboard up and unplug the ribbon cable that connects the keyboard to the motherboard.
  8. Set aside the old keyboard and plug in the new one.
  9. Put the new keyboard into place and screw it in.
  10. Finally, put the lock bar back to its place.

Before finishing off the task, make sure you check all the keys of your new keyboard. Good luck and Enjoy!

The internet has made our lives easier and more exciting. It provides access to millions of information on just about anything. It also allows us to download music, movies, and videos in just a click of your finger. However, the internet also serves as a gateway for computer viruses to enter into your laptop and cause different kinds of damage to your system. An anti-virus program is essential to protect your device from any malicious software and virus attack.Doctor Examining The Sick Computer

There are a number of antivirus software that detects virus programs, malwares, adware or spywares that laptop owners usually get just by surfing the net, downloading and running files and opening e-mail attachments.  These unwanted programs are created to breach the security of our system and pose serious damage.

In order to prepare your laptop from any unwanted virus attacks, you must arm your system with antivirus programs. These programs offer protection against all kinds or harmful malwares and viruses. It immediately alarms the user whenever it encounters a potential threat to the system. The user may either quarantine or delete viruses that might cause serious damage stored in the laptop and might result to data loss. Hackers also use viruses to steal information from another computer.

The market for this particular program has expanded throughout the years since the use if internet and proliferation of viruses also increased. You just have to choose the right antivirus program for your laptop. Once you’ve purchased or download an antivirus program install it and run your scans regularly to avoid chances of any virus entering your system.

The most important task in keeping away viruses is to take necessary precautions while using the internet. Here are some tips that you can follow to prevent any unwanted attacks.

  • Do not click on popup windows that automatically appears in your screen every time you open websites or when you connect to the internet.
  • Always run a scan on any file that you want to download or open.
  • If a warning message appears when you try to open a link, better listen to your anti-virus software.
  • Never open electronic mails from unknown or suspicious senders. Delete them immediately.

Although antivirus programs appear advantageous to your laptop, system processes tend to slow down especially when you run a scan of your files.  You could always run a scan of your computer without any other programs running to prevent further systems’ slow down.  Always update your antivirus program to ensure the protection of your laptop.

If you find that your anti-virus software is not able to clear your computer, your laptop need expert help. Contact us here.

Unlike regular desktops and laptops have pointing devices such as touch pads, pointing sticks or trackballs instead or a computer mouse. It is important to know how to clean your laptop’s touchpad to ensure optimum performance.

The constant use of a laptop may add grease to its touchpad that came from your fingers. However clean you may be, your fingers still have tiny particles or grease that you may transfer to the touchpad. Therefore, you should clean the touchpad by wiping it with damp cloth with a but of 50% solution of isopropyl alcohol or any kind of glass cleaning solution will do.

But be careful, if you are not sure if your solution is safe to use on your laptop’s touchpad, try it first on your laptop case and see if it doesn’t cause any damage to it. If not, then continue cleaning the touchpad. Do not press to hard on the surface of the touchpad while cleaning off the dirt. This may cause further damage to it.

If after cleaning the laptop and the touchpad don’t properly respond, it is recommended not to use the laptop for a week or so. If after that your touchpad or keys still doesn’t work then contact a laptop repair provider and ask them to change the damaged touchpad. It is important to note that this part of your laptop does not come in cheap and easy; it costs around $40 to $100. Therefore, you should take extra precaution in cleaning it or any part of your laptop.

If your laptop touchpad is having issue, you can contact us for no-obligation consultation.

There are ways on how to salvage your laptop in an event of a liquid spill. But you must have proper precautions. If you haven’t opened up a laptop yet, it is advisable that you do not do this at all. Take it to a professional instead and fast. Remember, do not panic. Panicking might cause you to do things that might do more harm than good. You must have the appropriate tools to do this, and one of these is presence of mind.

1) Shut the laptop off. If the power cord is still plugged, unplug it immediately. Remove the A/C adapter after the spill. If the liquid combines with electricity the device might short out. So, removing the power and the battery is the most important and immediate thing that you have to do after the spill.

2) Remove any external devices attached to the laptop.

3) Prevent the liquid from traveling further down to the machine’s sensitive parts by gently tilting it to one side.

4) Use lint-free paper towels or any absorbent material to dry as much liquid as you can.

5) Gently remove the keyboard wipe down the affected areas with a static free towel and protect yourself from static discharge. Swab affected areas with rubbing alcohol until it is clean. Don’t use gasoline or acetone to clean computer parts.

6) Let it dry naturally for 24 to 48 hours. Never use hair dryer because this will cause static problems and might fill your laptop with more contaminants such as dust.

7) Finally, reassemble your laptop and see if it is still working. If in case it doesn’t get your hard drive and test it. It might still work with other computers.

Remember that the best cure for any unfortunate incident is prevention. Keep liquids away from your laptop as much as possible. You can never be too careful with your laptop. But if you have done the unthinkable of spilling liquid onto your laptop, please contact us for help.

It is very ironic that you cannot use your laptop on top of your lap because it gets too heated up.  Using your laptop on your lap for a long period of time may cause severe damages on your skin such called the “toasted skin syndrome”. But even if you don’t put it on your lap, letting a laptop overheat may cause serious damages maybe not on your skin but on your device’s overall performance and eventually on your wallet.Ice Cooling Laptop Below

Therefore, it is important to keep your laptop cool every time you use it to prevent any system failure. Here are the things that I suggest you to do to control the operating temperature of your device.

1) Adjust the laptop’s power settings from ‘high performance’ to ‘power saver’ plan. By doing this, your laptop will only consume minimal amount of power that you need to run your applications.  Your device will less likely to heat up since it is not using its maximum processor speed. But you should return to high performance mode if your applications require more speed from your system.

2) Keep your fan vent dust free. Dust particles may prevent your cooling system to function properly or worse it would cause it to stop functioning at all. Malfunctioning cooling system is equal to increase of heat of your laptop. But you need not to worry. A simple dust brush is an effective remedy to keep dusts away from your fan vent. Just make sure that you use it regularly.

3) Do not let your laptop running when not in use. By doing this, you will not only reduce the risk of your laptop overheating but it is also a good energy saver as well. You should apply ways and means to maximize the use of your laptop. Like for example, buffering videos while working on something else on your laptop will not only let you save time and energy, but it is also an effective mean to minimize the amount of heat that your laptop will generate.

4) Use a cooling pad for your laptop. This is an external solution to keep your device cool. The built-in cooling system of your laptop may not endure longer hours of usage even if you follow the tips that I have given you. It is best to utilize a cooling pad if you plan to maximize the use of your laptop. Just keep in mind that you should choose the right cooling pad that will best suite your working habit.

If your laptop fan is not working properly, contact us for no-obligation consultation.

If they can clean your laptop fan, why can’t you? By learning some simple steps for cleaning your laptop cooling fan yourself, you can actually save up some money and still have your computer working in top condition. Be careful though and always check your manual. You may not be spending on having your cooling fan cleaned by a technician; but, if you will not be cautious, you might end up paying more for replacement fan, or worst, a new laptop.

So now, have your screwdriver, some screw baggie, dry cleaning cloth and compressed air ready and start cleaning like a pro!

1) First, make sure that you have turned off your laptop and unplugged it from any power source. Do not attempt to clean your cooling fan while your laptop is still on or is still connected to a power grid or battery. Not only will you destroy your laptop, you are also at risk of getting electrical shock and suffer injuries.

2) Next is to locate the RAM cover and remove it. In most laptops, it is located near the battery compartment. Unscrew the RAM cover and lift it carefully. Do not force to remove the RAM cover from the laptop. If it does not come off quite easily, check whether something else is attached to it or look carefully as to what could have stuck it in.

3) Once you have removed the RAM cover from the laptop, you may then carefully unscrew fan. Just remember to separate the screws from the ones from the RAM cover so as not to mix it up, since usually they are of the different size.

4) Gently wipe the blades of the laptop fan and blow out remaining dirt using the compressed air. Screw the fan in place and carefully put back the RAM cover and secure it tightly with the screws.

Plug in your laptop and turn it on to check if the fan is still working and if your laptop is still all right. If your laptop fan is not working, you might want to contact us for assistance.

The world today is very much dependent on computers. Almost all business transactions involve the use of computer technology. The advancement of this technology has led to the innovation of laptop computers and allowed individuals, business men and professionals to carry with them their office wherever they go. Therefore, important and critical information are stored in a laptop’s hard drive.Hard Disk Recovery

Unfortunately, information stored in a laptop may not be all that safe. It may be subject to data loss for a number of reasons such as hard disk drive issues, electronic failure, mechanical failure and logical errors such as invalid entry of a file allocation. It is important to note that if you encountered data loss from your hard drive, refrain from using free data recovery software programs because it might cause further damage than what you are trying to do. Any wrong move may damage your laptop, permanently erase your data or lose even more data than you already have. So, contacting a data retrieval and recovery service provider should be one of the first things to do if you want to safely recover your lost data.

There are different kinds of hard drive data recovery services. You can have an in house service or you can have your laptop picked up and delivered to you once the task has been done. In addition, there are also companies that provide data recovery services online but not all causes of data loss may be applicable.

Expert data and file recovery engineers and technicians have access to dust free and clean lab environment which is important in this procedures. They can help you recover data that has been lost due to various reasons such as logical errors, mechanical and electronic failure that may be due to natural disasters. There are different kinds of laptop hard drives such as Parallel ATA (PATA), Serial ATA (SATA), Small Computer System Interface (SCSI), and Solid State Drives (SSD) and a hard drive data recovery expert should be able to recover data from all of these types.

Most importantly, to avoid going through all these and the headache it would probably cost you, always ensure that you have back up files for all of the important data in your laptop.

We talked about “Virus Removal Guide for your Laptop Computer?” previously, now let’s talk about “Choosing the Right Cooling Pad for Your Laptop“.

Do you know that overheating can damage your laptop’s performance and may unfortunately lead to system failure? Heating problems is one of the common issues that most laptop users have with their tools because its built-in cooling system cannot stand the heat generated from long hours of usage. It is even sad to say that you cannot even use your laptop anymore on your lap because of the heat it generates. So, what can you do to prevent your laptop from overheating?Laptop Cooling Pad

It is simple. Buy a laptop cooling pad. A cooling pad is an accessory that cools or lowers down the operating temperature f your laptop. But there are things that you have to consider before buying a cooling pad. Of course, you don’t want to waste money on something that doesn’t properly correspond to your laptop’s design and build. Below is a list of tips that you may want to consider before buying that essential tool for your laptop.

1) If you mostly travel with your laptop, it is important to buy a cooling pad that is portable, light and of course something that can last long even if you carry it with you while traveling.  A laptop cooler that is made of plastic may be the best choice for travelers because of its light weight. But of course since it is made of plastic, it is will not last long than metal cooling pads do. So, you may want to consider which feature is important to you. Is it portability or durability? Another option for travelers is a chill mat that has crystalline gel.  It is also easy to carry and less inclined to damage.

2) Buy a cooling pad that fits the size of your laptop. It is not only the weight of the cooling pad that you should think about. You should also make sure that the size is not too big or too small. It should be a perfect fit!

3) If you use your laptop in be, sofa or on your lap, find a cooling pad that you will feel comfortable to use with your laptop.

4) Find a cooling pad that suits your budget. Plastic cooling pads are cheaper than metal cooling pad versions. Therefore, if your budget is low, a plastic cooling pad is the right one for you. But if you would prefer durability over affordability then choose the metal versions.

5) It is also important to choose a cooling pad that allows more airflow. A pad that is slightly curved and makes the back of the laptop to be slightly exposed provides more airflow and circulation.

6) Finally, choose the right cooling pad with the fan of your choice. You could choose a cooling pad with one large fan or one which has two or three smaller fans. But of course a larger fan does not necessarily mean better cooling system than a couple of smaller fans or fewer fans are less noisy than one larger fan. Therefore, it is important to check the reviews of the cooling pad that you would wish to buy.

You can always purchase a cooling pad range from $20 to $40 in Singapore, which is affordable and worth the money to protect you investment.
